Girard-Perregaux Sea Hawk VS. Hexa Watches K500

Girard-Perregaux Seahawk vs. Hexa Watches K500

Girard-Perregaux Seahawk vs. Hexa Watches K500The new Girard-Perregaux Seahawk is an undoubtedly cool watch, but at first glance another watch came to mind. Wait a minute! The new GP looks like an upside-down Hexa K500! Then again, the 4:00 crown style of the Sea Hawk was first introduced in 2002, so maybe the Hexa looks like an upside-down Sea Hawk. Did GP “borrow” some design elements from the Hexa or vice versa?

A New Sea Hawk Watch

This month, Girard-Perregaux unveiled a major overhaul to their Sea Hawk diver’s watch (ref: 49960-19-631-FK6A). A date is placed at 1:30 and the standard Sea Hawk power reserve indicator is still on the six. The large 44mm brushed stainless steel case features a rubber-clad bezel, crown, and case ring. The in-house caliber GP3300 keeps you on time. A deep 1,000m water resistance comes with a steep $11,350 USD retail price.

A New Watch Company

The Hexa watch company is a start-up that sprouted back in 2011. Their K500 model is also a 44mm stainless steel case design. It boasts half the water resistance and half the features, but is far less than half the price. For a mere $600 you can score yourself a cool upside-down GP Sea Hawk, er Hexa diver! (Math Fact: you can buy about 18.92 Hexa watches for the price of a Sea Hawk.)

  1. I see design similarities to the Linde Werdelin watches as well. Oh well I guess nothing new under the sun.

  2. While there are some While there are some similarities the case shape shapes really are much different. And I doubt GP even knows that Hexa brand exists.

  3. Hmm, did you say rubber clad bezel and crown? Sounds like GP is borrowing some design pointers from AP as well…

  4. The striking similarity is not the position of the crown but the lines of the crown guard on the case. I don’t know a thing about Hexa watches but I’m sure they’re no where near the quality compared to what Girard Perregaux is capable of, and I don’t think that’s what’s being compared here. I think the aesthetical comparison is not only interesting, it’s spot on!
